Top Interior Trends for 2021

In this blog post I’m going to discuss what I feel will be some of the top interior trends for 2021.

First up is tropical prints– at this stage of the year holidays are top of the wish-list for most people. Tropical prints conjure up happy thoughts of sun-kissed beaches, sunshine and fun times. If you can’t get away in 2021 why not bring some holiday fun into your home with some tropical print wallpaper, cushions or accessories?

Yellow and grey have been chosen as the Pantone colours of the year for 2021 so expect to see a lot of this colour combination in interiors this year. If you don’t want to go bright with your wall colour, you can add pops of yellow to your home with accessories like vases, cushions or even photo frames.

Comfort– after the tough year that 2020 has been for everyone and the way 2021 has started it’s time to continue being kind to ourselves. Comfort in the home is extra important now so think of a cosy and warm atmosphere with lots of throws, rugs and cushions. Add texture with different materials like linen, velvet and wool.

Multi-functional items in your home-during the pandemic our homes have had to fulfil many functions including being an office, a classroom, a gym, relaxation space etc. This is the reason why it’s worth investing in some items that can serve more than one purpose. Examples include ottomans with hidden storage (as pictured from Oliver Bonas) and extendable tables.

Home Office-this is definitely going to be one of the top interior trends of 2021 as working from home looks set to become an increasingly likely prospect for many into the future. If you don’t have the option of dedicating a whole room in your home to an office space why not create a nook in an existing room? For tips on setting up your home office check out our blog post we wrote on it here.

Bringing the outdoors inside-during the pandemic it has become obvious how important connecting with nature is for our mental health and wellbeing. Expect to see a lot more plants and greenery in homes in 2021. Plants not only contribute to the visual design of a space and add texture, they also have air-purifying properties. Popular plants that require minimal care include cactus, aloe vera, snake plants and spider plants.

Open plan spaces– there are a lot of parties and social gatherings that were missed in 2020 which we need to make up for in 2021, once it is safe to do so of course! Open plan spaces are ideal for entertaining so don’t expect to see them going anywhere in the near future!
